Wingate Elementary School's 4th and 5th graders recently enjoyed the fruits (or should we say, vegetables?) of their labor. Students in these grades planted, cared for, and harvested butter crunch lettuce in the school's Tower Gardens.
The Tower Garden is a vertical hydroponic growing system that allows students to grow plants indoors year-round. Students learned about plant science, nutrition, and the importance of sustainability throughout the project.
Last week, the students were able to reap the rewards of their hard work by enjoying their homegrown lettuce as a salad option at lunch. This hands-on learning experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect with their food and understand the process of growing their own produce.
