This afternoon, we were made aware of an issue with a slice of pizza that was served to one of our students during today’s lunch. The rogue slice appears to have come from the supplier with a piece of plastic embedded into the bottom, which went undetected until the student discovered it. We have reported the issue to the company that produced the food. Our cafeteria staff works hard to provide healthy, nutritious lunch options for our students. Earlier in the school year, our school board formed a cafeteria committee to improve our food services and offerings for our students. Unfortunately, the approximately 75,000 meals served without incident this school year are overshadowed when one unfit slice ends up on a student’s plate, and becomes the subject of ridicule on social media. To be clear, if a student has a concern with the food that is served, it should be reported so we can address the issue and replace the food. We thank the student for reporting today’s issue so we could investigate it and determine the cause. The food in question was not up to our standard, and we will work to ensure our protocols are updated to prevent an incident such as this in the future.
