Students Preparing for the 2021 Centre County Grange Fair

Students from Bald Eagle School District Busy Preparing for the 2021 Centre County Grange Fair

After a year break from the Centre County Grange fair, many community members are excited to be able to camp and enjoy the fair’s activities.  This is no different for Bald Eagle Area 4-H and FFA members who enjoy exhibiting prize livestock/community projects and showcasing their skill development as they learn how to make the best better or prepare for career success.  This year’s fair starts on Thursday, August 19, 2021, and will commence on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

Prior to the start of the fair, a new Centre County Grange fair queen, first runner up, and second runner up will be crowned.  Bald Eagle FFA member, Hailey Bucha, escorted by fellow student, Calvin Dechow, will be competing for a seat on the court.  Hailey the daughter of Joseph and Megan Bucha, Clarence PA was named the Northern FFA Star Farmer earlier in the year.  She earned the prestigious Keystone FFA degree as a junior. Her rabbit and veterinary supervised Agriculture experience projects helped her meet the hour requirement for the degree.  In addition, Hailey was a state proficiency finalist in the area of Specialty animal in 2021 as well.  She has a love for fiber arts and enjoys processing the wool from her Angora rabbits into quality garments which she sells.  Hailey is also a leader of the Bald Eagle FFA and will serve as chapter president in 221-2022 after two years as the chapter’s reporter.

In the livestock divisions, the Ellis Hall Scholarship Award recipients have been selected and will receive their recognition before the naming of livestock grand champions in their respective competitions.  This honor which includes an educational stipend and plaque is sponsored by Bill and Cathy Vargos of Julian.  Two Bald Eagle students earned this prestigious honor.  Ayden Jodon, son of Jeffery Jodon Jr. and Angela Jodon was nominated by the Centre County 4-H Sheep club for the Ellis Hall Market Sheep recognition.  Ayden and his family own and operate Silverdale Farm raising Katahdin sheep.  For the last 9 years, Ayden has been a member of Centre County’s 4H program and showcased the Katahdin breed.  This experience has been characterized as “Character Building 101” and he is grateful for the education and skills gained.  Resilience, a strong work ethic and an inspiration to always reach higher are some of the qualities that have been developed through the 4H program.  Ayden starts his first year at the Pennsylvania State University in Plant Sciences this fall.  Autumn Tobias, nominated by the Bald Eagle FFA chapter, earned the Ellis Hall Market Goat award.  Autumn Tobias is the daughter of Jack and Mindi Tobias, Show Shoe, PA.  She has been raising market goats for four and a half years.  Each year she raises, delivers new borns, trains, and show goats at the Grange Fair.  She is dual enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year at both Bald Eagle High School and Lockhaven University.  At Lock Haven University, she will be majoring in Pre-Professional to one day become a Chiropractor.  She is honored to be part of the historical record as a recipient of this award.
