Good afternoon Parents, Guardians, and Students:
This communication is to inform you of the new Continuity of Education Remote Learning Plan for grades K-12 that were rolled out this week. Teachers, staff and administrators have been working hard to develop remote learning opportunities to engage all students in educational learning during the school closure. Specific information about Grades K-5 and Grades 6-12 plans are provided below.
Grades K-5: Weekly Choice Boards, organized by grade level, contain activities, projects, and family connections for students to review and receive enrichment opportunities. Each Choice Board is created to be completed without the need for internet access and fully addresses developmentally appropriate skills and content for reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and encore areas. A new weekly Choice Board, containing different activities, will be US mailed each Friday for the following week. The Choice Boards will also be posted on the District’s website, www.beasd.org/ then selecting the “Choice Boards K-5 Remote Learning Opportunities” option.
Content modifications for Learning Support students is located directly on the Choice Boards. Special Education teachers collaborated with classroom teachers to assure content and activities were accessible and appropriate for all students. Any necessary modifications to ensure equal access to the content or activities are provided on the Choice Board to share necessary modifications to meet student learning needs.
Choice Boards are intended to be completed over the course of one week and not in one sitting. If you or your child are interested in additional learning experiences, please check out the e-learning resources located on the BEA website. The link for these resources is located directly above the “Remote Learning Opportunities” link on the main page.
Grades 6-12: All students will engage in our Continuity of Education Remote Learning Plan using Google Classroom or paper packets. Your child’s classroom teacher will post content or activities to their Google Classroom for students to access and engage in. Students with no internet access will receive a paper packet in the US mail with similar, content-specific activities that do not require the use of technology to complete. The packet will be mailed on Friday for the following week. Most BEA students have been using Google Classroom on a regular basis during the 2019-2020 school year. Students enrolled in classes not using Google Classroom will be provided with directions from their classroom teacher, in the next few days, detailing how to join and use this electronic learning space.
Although participation in the Remote Learning Opportunities is not currently required, we strongly encourage all students to participate in the teacher provided learning experiences to continue their education while schools are closed. As the Bald Eagle Area School District Team continues to work on enhancements, modifications, and improvements to the Bald Eagle Area School District Continuity of Education Remote Learning Plan, we will keep you updated.
If you have specific questions concerning your child’s remote learning activities, please contact your child’s teacher(s).
These are trying times for all of us. We thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support as we navigate through uncertain times.
Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Dr. Joseph Clapper, Interim Superintendent
